Waterford Lake Superior Adventure
Sunday, June 2, 2013 The Adventure Begins
Our summer trip to Lake Superior aboard Waterford, our Kadey Krogan 39 Trawler, began this morning! We left our home port of Toledo Beach, MI at 8 AM with our great friends Doug and Jan Martin aboard our sister ship Day Dreams. The day was cloudy and breezy with 2-3 ft waves as we made our way north along the west shore of Lake Erie into the Detroit River at the "Detroit Light".
We continued up the Detroit River and under the Ambassador Bridge in downtown Detroit at 1:30 pm.
And on past the "Ren Cen" (Renaissance Center), now GM World Headquarters. Of course the "Ford Guy" had to voice his opinion .........
As we continued up past Belle Isle, the site of the Detroit Grand Prix, we met the Tall Ship Niagra on her way downstream. For you history buffs, the Niagra was Admiral Perry's flagship that won the 1813 Battle of Lake Erie. It was quite a sight!
We arrived at Jefferson Beach Marina on Lake St. Clair, snug in a dock by 5 pm. After an early dinner at the Tin Fish, we retired to our respective vessels. We were still recovering from our granddaughter Kate's 4th birthday party and the Bon Voyage party, so called it a night.
