Tuesday/Wednesday June 11-12, 2013 Day 10/11 34 miles Total 318

Well, the sun might have come up, but we sure couldn't see it.  Fogged in!  Weather check at 8 am found dense fog advisory on the lake -- we'll see if it lifts as forecast and make a go/no go decision by noon.

Not gonna do it!

By noon, the fog had lifted and we decided to head out to Cheboygan.  It was a short 3 hour ride, but out on the lake, the fog came and went.  At times, we lost sight of Day Dreams completely just a half mile ahead!  As Garry described it, eerie, scary and beautiful all at the same time!  In the midst of those conditions, the computer we use for navigation CRASHED!  So, while Garry tried to get it going again, I took the helm, navigating with the older Furuno system.  Thank goodness for back ups!!    .

Rounding the point, fog lifting as we head into Cheboygan.

We pulled into Cheboygan Municipal Marina at 5 pm.  Once secure, Garry tried again to get the computer going with the help of the Geek Squad ---- to no avail.  So we loaded all the software onto the backup computer and we're good to go until Best Buy can replace the other one (you know Gar, always have a backup!).

Then it was definitely time for a cocktail!  Then we had quesadillas on board Waterford and headed for the beach to enjoy a fabulous sunset.

The Mackinac bridge from 25 miles away!

Beautiful night!

Wednesday started out foggy again.  This Coastguard vessel was docked just across the river and by morning, it was invisible!

Taken from our back deck at the dock.

Brand spankin' new one heading out.

Just like Tuesday, the fog finally lifted about 11 am, so we decided to launch the dinghies and take a little cruise up the river for lunch.  We followed the river up to a small boat lock that connects with the inland waterway.  Small craft can proceed through the chain of inland lakes all the way across to Petoskey.

When we got back to the dock, the guys worked on the Rogue Wave wifi booster over cocktails while Jan and I worked on dinner.  They'll use a temporary setup while we test out the system.

After a great dinner of burgers and salads, we once agin headed for the beach and another beautiful sunset.

The perfect end to a picture perfect day!

  1. Hi guys. I'd take a picture of me at my desk, but I'm afraid it might depress you. Looks like you're having a wonderful adventure and I know Jacque is preparing great feasts. I like the long cocktail hours too. I made Jacques's chicken and artichoke casserole just the other day. One of my fav's. Baby shower was a success, just waiting for Jax now. Jenni doesn't think she can get any bigger. Is she in for a surprise! Love you two. Be safe and have fun. Love the blog. Joyce
