Locks 28 - 20 Wooooooohooooooo! More than half way!
Although Lovesick is known for bears and raccoons, we saw neither and were on our way by 8:45 Saturday morning the 23rd. We'd only gone about half way to our next destination when we had to take a brief time out. Tied up at Lock 26, we made way for the tour boat Kawartha Voyager (KV)
We had to get off the boats to watch her lock through -- doesn't look too big coming in ---
YET! Her bow actually is folded up so that she'll fit into the lock!
And now she's in.......... a picture is worth a thousand words............
On her way out ............
You can see why we didn't want to meet her in the canal!
Time to move on through 4 more locks to Lock 21 -- the Peterborough lift lock. Remember Kirkfield Lock 36 being the 2 highest, well this is THE Highest of it's kind in the world with a lift height of
65 ft.
This time we're going in at the top and out at the bottom joined by a couple of other boats.
Going down!
And out at the bottom............
Dodging a few tour boats on our way out ---
none anywhere near the size of the KV!
We cleared one more lock before tying up for the day. That's a new record for us -- 9 locks in one 8-hour day, whewwww!
This calls for a celebration and dinner out. Lock 20, Ashburnham is just a mile beyond the lift lock in a lovely park setting. There was a bike path right over the lock gates leading to downtown Peterborough. It was a beautiful starlit evening, perfect ending to a big day.
We've now completed 24 locks -- more than half way through the 44 locks (there is no Lock 29) of the Trent Severn. What a ride!

Looks like you have to stay pretty sharp to attack all these locks and different sized boats. How WOULD you have passed the KV if you had met her in the canal? Glad you didn't have to attempt it. You sure look happy and healthy. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us.
